Unleavened Bread & Recipes

April 5, 2023

Feast of Matzot/Matzah Unleavened Bread is a wonderful Feast that we find in Scripture.

Believers are called to observe the Biblical Feasts of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 Yahuah our Eloah [The LORD your GOD]. I’ve explained before, but LORD was a title used for Ba’al the pagan sun god, so I avoid it. The Feasts are for ALL believers and we are called not to observe the pagan ways of the nations/gentiles. The Feasts are commanded forever.

The Spring Feast of Matzah, is a type of Unleavened Bread that we eat to remind us of the time when 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 redeemed His people, Yashra’el (Israel), out of Mitsrayim (Egypt). The command to get rid of the physical leaven from the home is a spiritual picture of ridding our lives of chaff that holds us back, slough off the traditions/doctrines of man, and put on righteous teaching of our Mashiach, 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 (Jesus Christ which I also avoid that name, but for reference sake).

We choose to spend the time leading up to the feasts to purge physical leaven from our home. We go through each room one by one. I suspect this might have been the original Spring cleaning time. We go through each item and ask a few questions.

  1. “Does this have any pagan origin, magic, or witchcraft?
  2. “Is this useful, do we need it?”
  3. “Am I becoming closer to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 with this?”

Many people equate leaven to sin. Yes leaven can lead to sin, but leaven isn’t sin. It is the teaching/doctrines you have. Is it rooted in the living Word, Torah and Mashiach, or doctrines of men? So anything in our life that is taking us from the Father and it’s revealed, we get rid of it.

“And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

Marqos (Mark) 8:15

“And again He said, “To what shall I compare the reign of Elohim? It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour until it was all leavened.”

Luqas (Luke) 13:20-21

A quick overview of some things we analyze:
1. Clothing – 100% natural fibers preferred, linen, hemp, wool, cotton, leather – no mixing plant and animal, no polyester in undergarments/daily wear.
2. Media – music, movies, tv, teachings, books, computer, photos, art, games – everything we watch is taken in by all our senses and subliminal messages are soaked in. Obvious would be anything with Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Harry Potter. Less obvious would be mainstream contemporary Christian type music and movies/shows, books like CS Lewis & JR Tolkien, composers like Mozart who have dark links.
3. Toys – first step was ridding of obvious demonic impressions on children that we needed to repent of – unicorns, mermaids, dragons, gnomes, big foot/yeti, fairies, trolls, etc. Then being more diligent about the quality of what we bring into our home.

Now lets get into the recipes for Unleavened Bread

Traditional tortillas. We did a Taco Bar for our big fellowship gathering on the 1st day of Matzah.
Fresh Milled Tortillas:
4 cups soft white wheat berries = 6 cups fresh milled flour
1 Tbl sea salt
2 cups hot water (more as needed)
Mix together and let sit 10 minutes covered with a damp cloth to soak in the water. Determine if you need more. Knead for 3 minutes until smooth and moist but not dry. Let rest another 10-20 minutes with a damp cloth. Divide into balls and either use a tortilla press/cooker or roll out thin and cook on a cast iron or stainless steel pan.

Fresh milled sweet honey matzah:
2 1/2 cups soft white wheat berries (3 1/2 c fresh milled flour)
1 cup water
1/2 cup honey
2 tsp salt
1/8 cup oil
Mix together. Roll into 1/8″ thickness. Place on a greased cookie sheet or parchment lined pan. Score into 1 inch squares or any shape you like and prick with a fork. My children got creative and did diamonds with pictograph Hebrew letters. Bake @400F for 15 minutes.
